Appearance
Most of what you see is configured under Settings → Appearance. There are four pages: Theme, Email List, Email Detail and Language. All changes take effect immediately, no restart.
Color scheme and accent color
Section titled “Color scheme and accent color”Under Theme you choose between Light, Dark and System. System is the default and tracks the operating system, including its automatic evening switch.
The Accent Color sets the color of buttons, links and other controls. You can pick from eleven presets, including YouniqMail’s blue violet as the default, or any color value under Custom Color. Reset to default brings back the default.
Font size
Section titled “Font size”Under Typography, also on the Theme page, you choose the font size in five steps from XS to XL, with M as the default. It scales the entire interface: a smaller step for more overview on large screens, a larger one for tired eyes.
On top of that, the View menu zooms the whole window in or out.
The email list
Section titled “The email list”Under Email List you shape the middle column:
- View Mode: Card View (default) with several lines per email or Table View with columns for sender, subject, preview and date.
- Email Grouping: The default is Group by conversation thread, meaning one row per conversation. Alternatively, you show each email on its own, group everything by sender or combine both with Hybrid.
- Message item: sliders for the number of subject lines (0 to 3) and preview lines (0 to 7), for the padding, the spacing between rows and the strength of the dividers. Together they decide how compact or airy the list looks.
- What each row shows: avatar or initials, tags, the symbols for reply, forward, note, flag, pin, priority, follow-up and attachments, the folder in combined views and the buttons that appear on hover (archive, junk, trash).
- Unread message indicator: blue dot, background color, both or nothing, with its own background color for light and dark mode.
- Date Format: Smart date shows relative values such as “Yesterday, 09:15” for recent emails, Full date always shows date and time.
- Selection stats bar: what the bar shows that appears when several emails are selected.
The Live Preview on the same page shows every change right away on a sample row.
The reading view
Section titled “The reading view”Under Email Detail you govern where and how opened emails appear:
- Detail Panel Position: Right next to the list (default), Bottom below it or Hidden.
- Thread conversation order: Oldest first (default) or Newest first.
- Thread collapse mode: by default all messages of a conversation are expanded. Alternatively, only the selected or only the newest message is open.
- Plus the sender verification banner, an overview of all attachments in the conversation, additional header lines and Quick Reply below the email.
Language
Section titled “Language”YouniqMail is available in 20 languages. Under Language you pick one of them or System default, in which case the app follows the language of your operating system. Switching takes effect immediately, no restart, and covers the entire interface, dialogs included.
What else belongs to appearance
Section titled “What else belongs to appearance”A few settings that affect the look live elsewhere:
- Dashboard (under Mailboxes → Dashboard): which tiles fill the right column while no email is open.
- Sidebar Listing (under Mailboxes → Sidebar Listing): which grouped mailboxes appear, whether Flagged, Tags and Smart Folders are shown, which counters you see and whether the account color appears as a border. The order of the sections is fixed.
- Dock / Windows: whether YouniqMail starts when you log in to your computer, whether the app icon shows the number of emails and whether it bounces (macOS) or flashes in the taskbar when new mail arrives.
