My emails are not arriving
When no email (or not all of it) appears, it is almost always one of a handful of causes. Work through the points in order.
1. Is the first sync still running?
Section titled “1. Is the first sync still running?”After adding an account, YouniqMail first loads the list of messages and then their contents. Large mailboxes take a while.
In a wide window, the progress appears in the header next to the sync button, for example “Loading Headers 120/5000”. Loading of older contents is shown on the dashboard and under Settings → Advanced. As long as something is running there, waiting is the right move.
2. Is there a connection at all?
Section titled “2. Is there a connection at all?”If YouniqMail is offline, the header shows a yellow Offline symbol. No new mail loads then, and outgoing messages collect in the outbox.
YouniqMail checks the connection via your accounts’ mail servers. If a network blocks the mail ports, in a hotel or at the office for instance, YouniqMail therefore appears offline although web pages load. See Connection fails. While offline, YouniqMail checks on its own every few seconds whether the connection is back.
3. Does the account report an error?
Section titled “3. Does the account report an error?”A red warning triangle next to the account in the sidebar indicates a connection or sign-in error; the tooltip names the reason. An expired or changed password is the most common cause when an account suddenly stops fetching mail although it worked before.
Open Settings → Email Accounts, choose Change IMAP/SMTP Settings for the affected account, enter the new password or app password and check it with Test Connection. Accounts with a Microsoft sign-in do not have this dialog; there the only fix is to remove the account and add it again, see Microsoft.
4. Are the folders mapped correctly?
Section titled “4. Are the folders mapped correctly?”If mail is missing not from the inbox but from Sent, Drafts or Trash, the folder mapping is usually wrong.
Check under Settings → Email Accounts, in the Folder Mapping section of the affected account, which server folder is assigned to which role.
5. Is a rule or block filing the mail away?
Section titled “5. Is a rule or block filing the mail away?”An automation rule can move mail before you ever see it. Easy to miss, because YouniqMail deliberately shows no notification for such mail.
Open Settings → Automations and check whether a rule you did not expect is matching. Turn it off temporarily with its switch to test.
Mail from senders under Settings → Blocked Contacts lands automatically in the spam folder or the trash, depending on the setting there.
6. Is a view filtering the list?
Section titled “6. Is a view filtering the list?”Check whether a tab other than All is active above the message list, such as Unread, Read or Has attachments. A running search or a selected smart folder naturally shows only a slice as well.
If an account is missing from the shared folders such as the inbox of all accounts, Exclude from grouped mailboxes may be turned on for it (under Settings → Email Accounts).
7. Is it the server?
Section titled “7. Is it the server?”Sign in to your provider’s web interface. If the mail is missing there too, it never arrived and the problem is not YouniqMail’s. In that case, check your provider’s spam folder.
If the mail is there in webmail but not in YouniqMail, right-click the folder → Force full resync of mailbox to sync the folder anew. Tags and notes are kept.
If none of this helps
Section titled “If none of this helps”Turn on Enable debug logging under Settings → Advanced, trigger the problem once more and describe the case to us. Include:
- your mail provider
- whether all accounts are affected or just one
- whether the mail exists in the provider’s web interface
- since when the problem exists
Where the logs are is covered under Logs for support.
