GMX, WEB.DE and Yahoo
For all three providers YouniqMail knows the server details: you pick the provider in the wizard and only add your name and credentials. The quirks lie elsewhere: GMX and WEB.DE deliver mail only once IMAP has been enabled in their webmail, and Yahoo requires an app password.
GMX and WEB.DE: enable IMAP first
Section titled “GMX and WEB.DE: enable IMAP first”Both providers ship with mail-app access switched off. Without the activation, the connection test fails with a sign-in error even though the password is correct. The wizard points this out and links to the provider’s instructions.
To enable it:
- Sign in to the provider’s webmail.
- Open the settings for POP3/IMAP access.
- Enable access and save.
Then in YouniqMail: Settings → Email Accounts → Add Email Account, pick GMX or WEB.DE, enter Your name, address and password, Test Connection, then Continue.
If you have enabled two-factor sign-in with the provider, you need an app password from the webmail’s security settings instead of the regular one.
Yahoo: generate an app password
Section titled “Yahoo: generate an app password”Yahoo accepts only app passwords from mail programs, regardless of the two-factor setting:
- Sign in to Yahoo and open the account settings under Security → App passwords.
- Generate a password for YouniqMail and copy it.
- In YouniqMail: Add Email Account → Yahoo Mail, enter Your name, address and the App password, Test Connection.
If the connection test fails
Section titled “If the connection test fails”With these three providers, the cause is almost always one of the two quirks above: IMAP not enabled (GMX, WEB.DE) or regular password instead of app password (Yahoo). General help lives under Connection fails.
For these three providers, the connection test checks receiving. Whether sending works shows with the first email. If it fails, check address and password under Settings → Email Accounts with Change IMAP/SMTP Settings. That is also where you enter a new password without setting up the account again.
