Managing devices
A Pro license is valid on two devices at the same time, made for the usual pair of desktop and laptop. The slots are not fixed: deactivating frees one, activating claims it again. Both need an internet connection.
Adding a second device
Section titled “Adding a second device”Simply activate there like on the first: enter the key from the purchase email, done. As long as a slot is free, there is nothing more to it.
The license shares only the unlock, not the data: each device has its own local database. How to get settings and mail onto a second device is covered under Backup and moving.
Changing machines
Section titled “Changing machines”The old computer retires, the new one arrives:
- On the old device: Settings → Pro / License, in the This device section click Deactivate this device and confirm. Pro pauses there, the slot becomes free, data stays untouched.
- On the new device: activate the license as usual.
When the old device no longer exists
Section titled “When the old device no longer exists”A stolen, sold or deceased machine cannot deactivate itself anymore. In that case you manage the devices through the payment provider’s customer portal. Every activation can be released remotely there. Each device appears there with its computer name and operating system.
If activation reports “This license is already active on 2 devices”, that is exactly the path: free a slot first, then activate anew. Activate the new device right after that: otherwise a released device that is still running claims a free slot again at its next check.
What deactivating means (and what it does not)
Section titled “What deactivating means (and what it does not)”Deactivating pauses the Pro features on the device, nothing more. Mail, rules, smart folders and settings remain fully intact; whatever was created beyond the free limits behaves as described under When Pro ends.
YouniqMail forgets the key in the process. If you want to use the device again later, enter it again, and everything is back at once.
