Snippets and templates
For recurring text there are two tools: snippets for sentences and paragraphs that you insert directly, and templates for longer texts with placeholders that get filled in on insert.
Snippets
Section titled “Snippets”A snippet is a piece of text with a name and, optionally, a Trigger
Keyword. The keyword makes it fast: type a slash in the editor, the
keyword, and then the Tab key, and YouniqMail inserts the snippet
right away. /thanks plus Tab becomes the fully written thank-you
paragraph without your hands leaving the keyboard.
Keywords only work with letters without accents or umlauts, digits
and the underscore. A keyword like grüße or with-thanks does not
trigger.
Create them under Settings → Text Blocks → Snippets:
- Add snippet
- Give it a name, optionally a trigger keyword
- Write the text, formatting included
- Save
All snippets, with or without a keyword, are also reachable via the Snippets button at the bottom of the compose window. You can search there, and favorites marked with the star are at the top.
Templates
Section titled “Templates”A template is a ready-made text for reuse, with variables in double curly braces. It has no subject and no recipients. YouniqMail inserts it into the text at the cursor position:
Hello {{recipient.firstName}},
thank you for your inquiry. …
{{sender.name}}YouniqMail fills built-in variables itself, such as the recipient’s
first and last name, company and address, your name and address, the
subject, or the date and weekday. Dates appear in the format of your
app language. Custom variables like {{project}} are possible too.
Create them under Settings → Text Blocks → Templates with Add template. There are two ways to place variables at the cursor position, and selected text is replaced:
- Toolbar button: Insert variable shows all built-in variables by group and also works in the HTML and Markdown views.
- Type
{{: A suggestion list opens right at the cursor. Keep typing to filter it, pick with the arrow keys and accept with Enter. Escape closes the list and leaves the typed text in place.
When you insert a template, the Replace variables dialog opens. For each variable you choose Auto (filled from recipient, sender, subject and date where possible), Manual (you enter the value) or Keep (the placeholder stays in the text). A preview shows the result before you confirm with Insert template.
In the compose window, templates are reachable via the Templates button, also with search and favorites.
Variables while writing
Section titled “Variables while writing”The compose window also has the Insert variable button in the
toolbar and the suggestion list after {{. Here YouniqMail inserts the
value right away, not the placeholder: next to each variable, the list
shows what will be inserted, such as the first name of the first
recipient. Anything that cannot be filled yet, such as the recipient
details while the To field is empty, is grayed out, with the reason
next to it.
Which for what
Section titled “Which for what”| Snippet | Template | |
|---|---|---|
| Size | sentence to paragraph | longer text |
| Insert | /keyword and Tab or Snippets button |
Templates button |
| Placeholders | none | {{variable}} is filled in (Pro) |
| Typical case | greeting, directions | quote, application reply, support answer |
Free-plan limits
Section titled “Free-plan limits”Without Pro, three snippets and three templates are available. Existing ones remain fully usable when Pro lapses; only no new ones can be added until there is room again.
Both can be exported and imported, for instance to share within a team. The full backup includes them.
